The collection containsa typescript of the foreward; typed copies of some poems that appeared in the volume including Virginia Taylor McCormick and Francis Brett Young; an annotated list of southern authors solicited for contributions; and reviews. The collection also contains correspondence regarding the publication of the volume, including carbons of letters sent by J. C. Metcalf to the various authors represented in the publication. as well as correspondence between James Southall Wilson and the publisher Harcourt Brace. Correspondents include Donald Clifford Brace, Alfred Harcourt, A. S.W. Rosenbach, Carl Sandburg, and Francis Brett Young. Miscellaneous papers of James Southall Wilson as an English professor arre scattered through the collection including an exam on Shakespeare, a letter from the Committee on Publicity [for the University] to President E. A. Alderman; and a draft of a letter from the General Faculty of the University of Virginia to the Board of Vistiors regarding the necessity of quickly electing a new president and a belief that the acting president of two years (John Loyd Newcomb) has demonstrated his capacity for the job.
